Sid Meier's Civilization V is an instalment of Firaxis Games' long-running turn-based strategy series. You lead a civilisation from the dawn of history to the space age: founding cities, exploring the map, researching sciences, negotiating with other leaders and choosing between war and peaceful routes to victory. This entry introduced the hexagonal-tile map and ended the stacking of units on one tile, two changes that reshaped the series' military tactics.
What the game offers
- A hexagonal map: terrain that matters, with defensive positions, chokepoints and lines of sight.
- One unit per tile: battles that call for manoeuvring rather than piling armies together.
- City-states: small neutral players you can court to obtain resources, units or diplomatic votes.
- Several paths to victory: domination, science, culture and diplomacy, each with its own strategy.
