This is Windows 11 Pro under an OEM licence for 1 PC. It contains everything in Windows 11 Home and adds encryption, virtualisation and administration tools, which suits freelancers, small businesses and demanding home users. OEM is the lower-cost format for a computer that will stay as it is.
What Pro gives you over Home
- BitLocker encrypts the whole drive, so your data remains unreadable if the computer is lost or stolen.
- Remote Desktop host lets the PC receive a remote connection; Home can only start one.
- Hyper-V runs virtual machines with no extra software.
- Windows Sandbox gives you a disposable space to try a suspicious file or program.
- Domain join or Microsoft Entra ID join for managed IT environments.
- Group Policy and Windows Update for Business to control settings and the timing of updates.
Understanding OEM
An OEM licence is permanently tied to the motherboard of the PC where it is first activated. It is not transferable to another machine, and replacing the motherboard may invalidate the activation. You can still reinstall Windows on the same hardware with the same key. If you want a licence you can move, pick a Retail version instead.
