Elden Ring is an open-world action RPG from FromSoftware, with world-building contributed by author George R. R. Martin. You play a Tarnished who returns to the Lands Between to restore the shards of the Elden Ring and claim the title of Elden Lord. The game keeps the demanding combat and allusive storytelling of the Souls series, but places them on a vast map that you cross on horseback, with no mandatory objective marker.
What the game offers
- A dense open world: six large regions, plus underground dungeons, catacombs and hidden areas that nothing points out.
- Technical combat: parries, dodges, jumps and charged attacks, with bosses whose rhythm you have to learn.
- Freedom in how you progress: if an opponent blocks the way, you can explore elsewhere and return stronger.
- Ashes of War and spirit summons: swappable weapon skills and allied spirits to call in during fights.
- Varied builds: strength, dexterity, faith, intelligence or arcane, each opening up its own weapons and spells.
- Multiplayer features: cooperation, invasions and messages left by other players.
