Wallpaper Engine is not a game but software distributed on Steam, which replaces the static Windows wallpaper with animated, interactive or reactive backgrounds. It handles videos, 3D scenes, websites, apps and creations reacting to the mouse, to system audio or to the time of day. Its main strength remains the Steam Workshop, where the community shares hundreds of thousands of free wallpapers.
What awaits you
- Varied animated backgrounds — looping videos, 3D scenes, 2D animations and particle effects.
- Interactive backgrounds — reaction to mouse movement, to the sound being played or to the system clock.
- Community workshop — a gigantic catalogue, downloadable in one click from Steam.
- Built-in editor — create your own backgrounds from images, videos or layered scenes.
- Multi-screen — a different background per monitor, with independent settings.
- Performance management — automatic pause when an app is full-screen, so it uses no resources while gaming.
Activation on Steam
Log in to your Steam account, open the Games menu then Activate a Product on Steam and enter the key received. Wallpaper Engine is added permanently to your library and gives access to the Workshop.
System requirements
Windows only, preferably 64-bit. The software is lightweight: a dual-core processor, 2 GB of RAM and a compatible graphics card are enough. Consumption depends mainly on the chosen wallpaper, 3D scenes being more demanding than videos.
