McAfee Internet Security 2023 is McAfee's mid-range security suite, for 1 device for 1 year. It brings together the antivirus, the firewall, browsing protection and a password manager. This is a 2023 edition: the engine corresponds to this generation, but the threat definition updates are provided throughout the duration of the licence, which ensures the detection of current threats.
What the protection includes
- Real-time antivirus — continuous analysis of files and processes, blocking of viruses, Trojans, spyware and ransomware before they run.
- Two-way firewall — filters incoming and outgoing connections and flags programs that try to communicate without legitimate reason.
- McAfee WebAdvisor — rates search results and blocks phishing sites and dangerous downloads before the click.
- True Key password manager — encrypted vault and automatic filling of login forms.
- File shredder — permanent deletion of confidential documents, with no recovery possible.
- Startup optimisation — cleanup of temporary files.
Internet Security or Total Protection?
The difference is clear and worth knowing. Internet Security covers the essentials: antivirus, firewall, web protection, passwords. Total Protection adds the Secure VPN (encryption of the connection on public Wi-Fi networks), identity monitoring (alert if your data appears in a leak or on the dark web) and extended protection of personal data. If you often connect away from home or if the protection of your identity concerns you, go for Total Protection. Otherwise, Internet Security is enough.
