Black Mesa is the complete reconstruction of Half-Life on the Source engine, started by a team of enthusiasts and turned into a commercial product approved by Valve. You play Gordon Freeman, a physicist at the Black Mesa research facility, on the day when an experiment turns to disaster and opens a breach towards a hostile dimension. The game keeps the structure and pacing of the original — no cutscenes, no interruptions, a continuous first-person progression — but entirely rebuilds the settings, models and dialogue.
What awaits you
- A complete overhaul — redesigned levels, modern lighting, animations and voice acting entirely redone.
- Progression with no interruption — the story unfolds through the character's eyes, without ever taking control away.
- Iconic arsenal — crowbar, pulse gun, crossbow, explosive leeches and turrets.
- Environmental puzzles — jumps, valves, electrical circuits and irradiated zones to work around.
- The reworked Xen chapter — the alien section, heavily criticised in the original, has been completely redesigned.
- Varied enemies — creatures from Xen and military forces sent to cover up the incident.
