Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition moves the series from the medieval period to the colonial era, from the 16th to the 19th century. Muskets, cannons, warships and cavalry replace the pikemen and the trebuchets. The game introduces a mechanic specific to this instalment: the home city, a European metropolis that you develop from match to match and that sends you shipments of reinforcements, resources and technologies as the confrontation unfolds.
What awaits you
- The home city system — at each level you choose the shipments you unlock, which adds a layer of strategic customisation unprecedented in the series.
- European, Native American and Asian civilisations — each with its units, its buildings and its play style, including the civilisations added in this edition.
- Gunpowder combat — infantry formations, siege artillery, naval battles and management of firing lines.
- Overhauled single-player campaigns — the Shadow, Ice and Steel stories, plus the historical campaigns added to the definitive edition.
- Skirmish and online multiplayer — varied maps, team matches and competitive ranking.
