This listing covers Windows 10 Pro with a Retail licence. It pairs the professional tools of the Pro edition with a licence that is not locked to one machine: after you uninstall the system from the old computer, you can use the key on a new one. Unlike an OEM key bound to the motherboard, a Retail licence is not affected by a change of major components.
Pro tools included
- BitLocker to encrypt the system drive, and BitLocker To Go for USB drives.
- Incoming Remote Desktop, to control the workstation from another computer on the network or over a VPN.
- Hyper-V for local virtual machines, handy for testing or isolating an environment.
- Windows Sandbox, a disposable space to run a program you do not yet trust.
- Active Directory domain and group policies for use inside a company network.
- Windows Update for Business to schedule and defer feature updates.
Moving the licence to another PC
Once Windows is activated, link the licence to a Microsoft account. This converts it into a digital licence that you can reuse after changing PC. This makes Retail a sensible choice for a workstation that is likely to evolve over time.
