The Outlast Trials is the co-op instalment of the Outlast series, developed by the Canadian studio Red Barrels. You play a test subject abducted by the Murkoff Corporation and subjected to a series of trials meant to reprogram them. As in the previous instalments, you do not fight: you have neither firearm nor effective melee, only your legs, your stealth and night vision to power with batteries. The big difference here is that you can face these nightmares solo or with up to four players online.
What awaits you
- Horror without combat — hiding, running, locking a door, crawling under a bed: fleeing is your only strategy.
- Four-player co-op — pick up a downed teammate, free them, heal them, or decide to save your own skin.
- Varied trials — each mission sets objectives to complete in a hostile setting, guarded by pursuers with different behaviours.
- Night vision — essential in complete darkness, but dependent on batteries to be found on site.
- Character progression — improving abilities, rescue equipment and customising your cell.
