The Outlast Trials is the co-op instalment of the horror series by Red Barrels, here on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The game takes place during the Cold War: the Murkoff Corporation abducts vulnerable people to subject them to conditioning programmes. You are one of these test subjects, sent into recreated settings — police station, amusement park, orphanage — to accomplish objectives under the watch of pursuers that are impossible to confront. All the tension arises from this helplessness: you can only run, hide and co-operate.
What awaits you
- Up to four players online — the game is also accessible solo, but it reaches its full dimension as a team.
- No combat — survival relies on stealth, fleeing and using items to slow the pursuers.
- Night vision goggles — an iconic element of the series, with a limited battery.
- Objective-based trials — missions divided into tasks, in dense, patrolled levels.
