Windows 11 Education is the edition designed for schools, teachers and students. In technical terms it matches the Enterprise edition, carrying the same security and administration features with lighter default settings for a school setting. This is a Retail licence for 1 PC.
Features of the Education edition
- Enterprise-level functionality: AppLocker, Credential Guard, Application Guard, BranchCache and DirectAccess are available.
- BitLocker: full-disk encryption, handy for laptops lent to pupils.
- Incoming Remote Desktop, Hyper-V and Windows Sandbox: everything found in the Pro edition is included.
- Domain or Microsoft Entra ID join: connection to an organisation's directory.
- Group Policy and update management: one configuration applied across a room of computers.
- Cleaner interface: suggestions, tips and promotional content are off by default, unlike in Windows 11 Home.
- Take a Test mode: locks the workstation to an online assessment, with no access to other apps.
