This listing is for Microsoft Project 2019 Standard, a one-off purchase licence for 1 PC. The software lets you split a project into tasks, put them in order, estimate how long each will take and compare real progress with the baseline plan. It suits project managers who work on their own machine.
Main capabilities
- Gantt charts laying out the sequence, duration and dependencies of tasks.
- Critical path, showing which tasks would push back the finish date if they slipped.
- Automatic or manual scheduling: have Project recalculate dates, or fix them task by task.
- Milestones and deadlines to mark checkpoints and deliverables.
- Baseline planning for measuring variances between plan and reality.
- Built-in reports on project overview, costs and overdue tasks, which can be exported and printed.
- Multi-scale timeline with several parallel bands for presenting the project to management.
Standard compared with Pro
Standard handles planning on a single, standalone machine. Pro adds shared resource management across several projects and synchronisation with Project Server or Project Online, which matters when several project managers draw on the same teams. If you manage your own schedules alone, Standard is sufficient.
