Europa Universalis IV is a grand-strategy game developed by Paradox Development Studio. You take charge of a nation — from France to a small Italian duchy, from a merchant city-state to an Asian empire — and lead it from 1444 to 1821. Everything plays out on a real-time world map with pause: diplomacy, economy, colonisation, technology, religion and war are all interwoven without any objective being imposed on you.
What awaits you
- Hundreds of playable nations — each with its national ideas, its neighbours and its historical missions.
- In-depth diplomacy — alliances, royal marriages, vassalisation, coalitions and casus belli to justify before any war.
- Economy and trade — trade nodes to control, production income and inflation management.
- Exploration and colonisation — maritime expeditions, colonies to found and colonial nations that eventually demand their independence.
- War and army management — regiment composition, terrain, supply and sieges to conduct.
- Institutions and technologies — innovations spread from their region of origin and must be adopted, on pain of falling behind.
